Basketball Recap: Newton Takes a Loss

Newton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat dating back to last season. Their2024 ended with a 46-28 loss against the Hemphill Hornets. The Eagles were not able to make up for their defeat to the Hornets from their previous meeting back in January.

Newton's loss dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Hemphill, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-9.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Newton will square off against Pineywoods Community Academy at 7:15 p.m. on January 3, 2025. As for Hemphill, they will head out on the road to take on Shelbyville at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing is sure in Shelbyville's favor as the team sits on three straight wins at home while Hemphill has been banged up by six consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season.
