Baseball Recap: New Lexington Extends Winning Streak to Three

New Lexington had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the six-run drubbing they dealt River View on Thursday. The Panthers were the clear victors by an 18-12 margin over the Black Bears. The victory was nothing new for the Panthers as they're now sitting on three straight.

Carson Fortner was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, New Lexington got a big performance out of Tanner Toth, who went 2-for-5 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. The Panthers are undefeated when Toth posts two or more runs, but 4-8 otherwise. Nathan Gottke was another key player, going 3-for-6 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles.

New Lexington kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

The win got New Lexington back to even at 8-8. As for River View, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 10-10.

Coincidentally, New Lexington and River View will both be playing Coshocton the next time they take the field. The Panthers will head out to face the Redskins at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, while the Black Bears will head out to face them at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
