Softball Game Preview: Leonard Tigers vs. Pottsboro Cardinals

Leonard is 1-8 against Pottsboro since April of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. A feisty cat fight will be fought as Leonard Tigers challenge Pottsboro Cardinals at 6:00 p.m.

Leonard is headed into Tuesday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their eighth straight game on Friday. They came up short against Blue Ridge, falling 10-1. Having soared to a lofty 13 runs in the game before, Leonard couldn't push the score so high this time.

Leonard saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lauren Pemberton, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Meanwhile, Pottsboro had to endure a six-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They had just enough and edged out Howe 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Cardinals have posted since February 15th.

Chayse Jones spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on three hits and racked up seven Ks. Those seven strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, Savannah Smith was a standout: she went 1-for-3 with one triple and two RBI. Madison Johnson was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

Pottsboro's win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 4-10-1. As for Leonard, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-17.

Leonard suffered a grim 15-8 defeat to Pottsboro in their previous matchup back in April of 2023. Can Leonard avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
