Softball Recap: Palm Beach Gardens' Winning Streak Snapped at Eight Games

Palm Beach Gardens dropped their record down to 16-6 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's eight-game streak of wins. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wellington Wolverines. While getting shut out isn't ideal, the Gators haven't been shut out since back in March.

As for Wellington, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 16-4. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games.

For Wellington's part, Tori Payne made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over seven innings pitched. Payne has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one stolen base and one run. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kaylee Riles, who went 1-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Angelina Baronci was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one RBI.

Looking ahead, Palm Beach Gardens will head out on the road to challenge West Boca Raton at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Wellington does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
