Softball Game Preview: Northridge Vikings vs. Watkins Memorial Warriors

Northridge hasn't had much luck against Watkins Memorial recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Vikings will welcome the Warriors at 5:00 p.m. Northridge has given up an average of 14.4 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Northridge is headed into Wednesday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their eighth straight game on Monday. They lost 17-6 to Lakewood.

Kaylee Goodwin made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in two of her three plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. That stolen base marked the first that she has snagged this season.

Meanwhile, Watkins Memorial had just enough and edged out Licking Valley 4-2 on Monday.

Jacy Severance spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits and racked up nine Ks.

On the hitting side, Watkins Memorial's win was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Marlee Gerhardt, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Watkins Memorial's victory bumped their record up to 10-6. As for Northridge, their loss dropped their record down to 4-10.

Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Northridge hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .353. However, it's not like Watkins Memorial struggles in that department as they've averaged .322. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
