Baseball Recap: Millbrook Pioneers vs. Handley Judges

Suggested Video

Millbrook extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 6-8 in the process. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Handley Judges. The Pioneers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Judges earlier this season, when they won 3-1.

As for Handley, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-9. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 2 run in those games.

For Handley's part, Millbrook's batters probably weren't too happy with Jake Swartz, who pitched a no hitter and racked up ten Ks (he gave up three walks). Swartz also allowed no hits, which is notable because the Judges are 2-1 when he allows at most one hit, but 3-8 otherwise.

At the plate, Charlie Allen was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases. He is becoming a predictor of Handley's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 3-1 (and 2-8 when he doesn't).

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Millbrook will square off against rival Meridian at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Handley is set to face off against their familiar foe Sherando at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
