Volleyball Recap: Higley Comes Up Short in High-Profile Game with Highland

Higley faced Highland in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Knights fell just short of the Hawks by a score of 3-2. That makes it the first time this season the Knights have let down their home crowd.

Higley wouldn't go down easily and took Highland into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking two-point loss. The match finished with set scores of 24-26, 25-21, 25-16, 23-25, 19-17.

When it comes to explaining why Higley lost, don't look at Britton Skousen. Despite the final result, he had 19 digs and two aces. Skousen is on a roll when it comes to digs, as he's now had 11 or more in each of the last 12 games he's played.

Highland was led to victory by Lucas Ogden and Jack Adams. Ogden had 12 digs and two assists, while Adams had nine digs and four assists. That's the most digs Adams has posted since back in March.

Higley's loss dropped their record down to 28-7-2. As for Highland, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 26-9-1 record this season.

Higley will host ALA - Gilbert North at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Eagles will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Knights surely won't give up without a fight. As for Highland, they are taking a road trip to square off against Desert Ridge at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Hawks are facing the Jaguars at the right time seeing as the Jaguars are stuck on a four-game losing streak.
