Baseball Game Preview: Altamont Indians vs. Cumberland Pirates

Altamont is a perfect 3-0 against Cumberland since April of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Indians will look to defend their home field against the Pirates at 4:30 p.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Wednesday.

Cumberland will be up against a hot Altamont team: the squad just extended their winning streak to five. Altamont never let Neoga get on the board and left with an 8-0 victory on Monday. The result was nothing new for Altamont, who have now won five games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Kade Milleville made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 16 over seven innings pitched. Those 16 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Cooper McManaway and Dyson Wagner did most of the damage at the plate: McManaway scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3, while Wagner scored a run while going 1-for-4. Brayden Elam was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, Cumberland made easy work of Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond on Monday and carried off a 9-2 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Pirates.

Altamont's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-2. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Cumberland, their victory bumped their record up to 5-6.

Altamont took their win against Cumberland in their previous matchup back in April of 2023 by a conclusive 6-0 score. Will the Indians repeat their success, or do the Pirates have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
