The biggest upset of the week belonged to Eastwood, who defeated 288th ranked Americas, 34-28. Mark Torres threw for 157 yards and 1 touchdown and ran for 68 yards in the win.
The Troopers moved up to 406 from 499 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 5A Region I District 1. Eastwood climbed the ranks as a result of beating the Trail Blazers 34-28.
Coronado's dynamic duo of Mickey Courtney and Josh Brady proved tough for Socorro to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Courtney threw for 302 yards and 5 touchdowns and Brady had 124 yards receiving. Bobby Chacon helped Coronado's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 66 yards.
Lederrick Wilson was a beast in the backfield as El Dorado bested Bel Air.
He was 9-12 with 0 interceptions.
Montwood's Jacob Aguilar and Ruben Portillo have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-3 quarterback Aguilar has thrown for 1,965 yards this season, while Portillo has 57 catches for 876 yards. The Aztecs' Wilson leads the league in rushing yards with 1,497.
Going into this week's game against PHIL BARRIOS's team, Franklin's Cameron Candelaria needs 96 passing yards to surpass 2,000 on the season. Accruing a total of 20 touchdowns this year, Candelaria has thrown for 1,904 yards with 4 interceptions.
Nickolas Bingham of the the Cougars is only 17 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 132 carries Bingham has accumulated 983 yard this year.
Fans will be treated to a premier battle in the secondary when the Rams' Portillo goes up against the Thunderbirds' Ron Lee Dentinger III.
Next week's game between Montwood and Coronado will feature an aerial matchup as Aguilar tests his arm against Dentinger III's defensive ability.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Bob Anderson's team takes on Chuck Veliz's team. The Thunderbirds are currently in third, while the Rams are in first.
The Bulldogs fell to Coronado 59-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Johnny Mora ran for 92 yards in the defeat.
