With a playoff win on the line, Troup County rose to the challenge on Thursday. They breezed past the Westover Patriots to the tune of 45-14. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by 28 points or more this season.

Garrison Edwards continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, throwing for 346 yards and five TDs while completing 95.5% of his passes, and also rushing for 49 yards. Those five passing touchdowns gave him a new career-high. Troup County's leading receiver Davis Moncus was Edwards' top target yet again, picking up 100 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Troup County's run defense was locked in: Westover could only muster 3.1 yards per carry. The team can thank Skylen Straughn for the heroic effort on defense: he. Troup County didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 5.7.

Troup County's defense didn't let Gabriel Hooper, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for six sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Jeremiah Culpepper and Monyah Johnson, who racked up five sacks between them. Culpepper has been hot, having also posted five or more total tackles the last five times he's played. Straughn was another major factor on D, picking up a sack and making 14 total tackles.

Despite the defeat, Westover saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Hooper threw for 186 yards and two touchdowns.

Troup County's victory bumped their record up to 10-1. As for Westover, their loss dropped their record down to 6-4.

Coming up, Troup County is taking a road trip to face off against Cairo at 7:30 p.m. on the 21st. The Syrupmakers will roll in looking for their ninth straight win, something the Tigers surely won't give up without a fight. Westover does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
