Recap: Golden Demons vs. Evergreen Cougars
After flying high against the Alameda Pirates last Friday, the Golden Demons came back down to earth. Golden fell just short of Evergreen by a score of 45-42. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat Golden has suffered yet this season.
Despite the loss, Golden saw an underclassman step up: Ashlyn Bates dropped a triple-double on 15 points, ten rebounds, and ten steals. Bates hasn't dropped below two steals for eight straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooklynn Carbone, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds.
Evergreen got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Tatum Buenning out in front who scored ten points along with eight rebounds. Buenning is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Elle Buenning, who scored six points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Golden now has a losing record at 7-8. As for Evergreen, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-4.
Golden will head out on the road to face off against Bear Creek at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Colorado (Bear Creek is ranked 114th, while Golden is ranked 137th). As for Evergreen, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on Pomona at 6:00 p.m. on January 26th. Pomona is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
