Basketball Recap: Patel Comes Up Short

Patel was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were beaten by the St. Petersburg Catholic Barons 64-26. The Trailblazers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Barons apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January.

Despite the loss, Patel still got an impressive performance from Sophia Rice, who went 7 of 17 en route to 17 points. Those 17 points gave Rice a new career-high.

Leading St. Petersburg Catholic to victory were Savannah Brown and Kinsley Spoor. Brown went 5 for 11 on her way to 16 points and five steals, while Spoor posted eight points in addition to 17 rebounds and five blocks. Spoor continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Naomi Thompson, who went 5 of 8 on her way to 10 points and eight rebounds.

Patel's defeat dropped their record down to 1-9. As for St. Petersburg Catholic, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-2.

Patel wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, an 82-23 loss against Mitchell on the 13th. As for St. Petersburg Catholic, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 38-28 defeat against Chamberlain on the 14th.
