Baseball Game Preview: McMichael Phoenix vs. Morehead Panthers

McMichael is 2-8 against Morehead since May of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Phoenix will head out on the road to take on the Panthers at 7:00 p.m.

On Wednesday, McMichael came up short against Western Alamance and fell 13-8. The Phoenix have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, Morehead waltzed into their match on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They had just enough and edged out the Phoenix 7-5.

Tanner Rippey made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two hits in eight consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Zachary Grogan, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Jacob Sands, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

The win got Morehead back to even at 7-7. As for McMichael, their loss dropped their record down to 11-5.

McMichael couldn't quite finish off Morehead when the teams last played on Tuesday and fell 7-5. Can the Phoenix avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
