Softball Game Preview: Sumner Stingrays vs. Tampa Catholic Crusaders

The Sumner Stingrays are taking a road trip to take on the Tampa Catholic Crusaders at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.

Sumner came up short against Lakewood Ranch on Friday, falling 7-1. The Stingrays have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Sumner saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kamryn Pickering, who went 1-for-3 with one double.

Meanwhile, Tampa Catholic didn't have quite enough to beat Academy of the Holy Names on Wednesday and fell 5-4.

Tampa Catholic got a big performance out of Gianna Kontny, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base. Alexis Fulgueira also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.

Tampa Catholic now has a losing record of 7-8. As for Sumner, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-11.

Sumner couldn't quite get it done against Tampa Catholic in their previous matchup back in February of 2025 as they fell 17-12. Can the Stingrays avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
