Softball Game Preview: Kenton Ridge Cougars vs. Licking Valley Panthers

The Kenton Ridge Cougars will square off against the Licking Valley Panthers at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Kenton Ridge comes in on 29 and Licking Valley on 12.

Kenton Ridge is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They never let Taylor get on the board and left with an 8-0 victory. Considering the Cougars have won 26 matches by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Meanwhile, Licking Valley sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 win over Clinton-Massie on Wednesday.

Emory Whisner made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 16 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run and one stolen base.

Whisner wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Taylor Penick, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one RBI.

Kenton Ridge's victory bumped their record up to 29-0. As for Licking Valley, their win bumped their record up to 23-4.
