Softball Recap: Evanston Gets the Win

Evanston had lost three games on the road, but after bumping their record up to 2-8 on Thursday that streak is in the rearview. They had just enough and edged out the Highland Park Giants 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Wildkits have posted since May 17, 2024.

Maya Nelson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on eight hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Delila Liston, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Those RBI were her first of the season.

As for Highland Park, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-4. That's two games in a row now that they have lost by just one run.

On Highland Park's side, they also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Lily Freedman gave up three earned runs on two hits and racked up 14 Ks.

On the hitting side, Highland Park saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Marin Killeen, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI.

Coincidentally, Evanston and Highland Park will both be playing Niles West the next time they take the field. The Wildkits will host the Wolves at 4:45 p.m. on Friday, while the Giants will head out to face them at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
