Basketball Recap: Spring Valley Takes a Loss

On Thursday, Spring Valley faced Centennial in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Spring Valley Grizzlies were outmatched by the Centennial Bulldogs and fell 84-41. The Grizzlies' defeat continues a trend for the squad, making it three in a row.

When it comes to explaining why Spring Valley lost, don't look at Mia Ervin. Despite the final result, she almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine rebounds. That was a full 34.1% of Spring Valley's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Aujanae Mays, who put up nine points and six boards.

Spring Valley's loss dropped their record down to 12-11. As for Centennial, the victory was the 14th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 20-2.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Spring Valley will head out to take on Democracy Prep Agassi Campus at 6:30 p.m. on February 13th. Democracy Prep Agassi Campus will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Spring Valley surely won't give up without a fight. As for Centennial, they will look to defend their home court on February 13th against Coronado at 6:30 p.m. Centennial knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 11 contests -- so hopefully Coronado likes a good challenge.
