Volleyball Recap: Weld Central Rebels vs. Jefferson Academy Jaguars

Weld Central was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They fell just short of the Jefferson Academy Jaguars by a score of 3-2. The Rebels were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Jaguars apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in September of 2017.

Weld Central took Jefferson Academy into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking four-point loss. The match finished with set scores of 19-25, 25-23, 25-17, 23-25, 15-11.

Despite the defeat, Weld Central saw an underclassman step up: Makayla Milligan had nine digs and 18 assists.

Even though they lost, Weld Central was lethal from the service line and finished the game with ten aces. That's the most aces they've posted since back in October of 2023.

Jefferson Academy was led to victory by Sora Greenzweig and Alison Smith. Greenzweig had two aces and 26 assists, while Smith had six digs, five kills, and five kills. Greenzweig is on a roll when it comes to assists, as she's now posted 12 or more in the last three games she's played.

Weld Central's loss dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Jefferson Academy, the victory snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 2-5 record.

Weld Central will be playing in front of their home fans against Windsor Charter Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Jefferson Academy, they will square off against D'Evelyn at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Jefferson Academy is facing D'Evelyn at the right time seeing as D'Evelyn is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
