Basketball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Deposit-Hancock

Deposit-Hancock had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15 points) and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They walked away with a 62-55 victory over the Onteora Eagles.

Deposit-Hancock was led to victory by Micah Simmons and Blake Fortunato. Simmons dropped a double-double on 28 points and 28 rebounds, while Fortunato posted 23 points in addition to six boards and four steals. Fortunato's afternoon made it seven games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Alejandro Gonzalez, who put up six points.

Deposit-Hancock smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in 12 consecutive games dating back to last season.

Despite the loss, Onteora saw an underclassman step up: freshman Ja'Meer Maize dropped a double-double on ten points and ten boards. Maize is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Sam Storch was another key player, putting up eight points.

Deposit-Hancock's record now sits at 6-1. As for Onteora, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-2.

Deposit-Hancock wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 66-63 loss against Walton on the 28th. As for Onteora, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 69-62 win against Liberty on the 28th.
