Basketball Game Preview: Mt. Ararat Eagles vs. Freeport Falcons

Mt. Ararat and Freeport are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2019, but not for long. It'll be a Battle of the Birds when the Mt. Ararat Eagles duke it out with the Freeport Falcons at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Freeport will be up against a hot Mt. Ararat team: the squad just extended their winning streak to ten. Mt. Ararat beat Fryeburg on Thursday by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 71-17. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Maine basketball rankings (they are ranked fourth, while the Raiders are ranked 107th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Freeport came tearing into Tuesday's matchup with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12 points) and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Navigators, posting an 83-26 victory. The Falcons' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Mt. Ararat's win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-2. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.4 points per game. As for Freeport, their victory bumped their record up to 10-5.

Mt. Ararat took their win against Freeport when the teams last played back in December of 2024 by a conclusive 65-45. The rematch might be a little tougher for Mt. Ararat since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
