Basketball Game Preview: MacArthur Cardinals vs. Pearce Mustangs

MacArthur hasn't had much luck against Pearce recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The MacArthur Cardinals will venture away from home to square off against the Pearce Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

MacArthur is headed into Tuesday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Friday. They lost 83-61 to Dallas Jesuit. While losing is never fun, the Cardinals can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 723rd, while the Rangers are ranked 77th).

Despite the loss, MacArthur saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Treyden Berryman went 9 for 16 en route to 24 points and five rebounds. The dominant performance gave Berryman a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Landon Tatum, who posted ten points in addition to five boards and three steals.

Even though they lost, MacArthur smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Pearce was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Friday as they fell 52-48 to Richardson.

MacArthur's record now sits at 5-22. As for Pearce, their record is now 19-9.

MacArthur and Pearce were neck-and-neck in their previous matchup on January 3rd, but MacArthur came up empty-handed after a 38-37 defeat. Can MacArthur avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
