Basketball Recap: Lyla Miller's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Christian Community over HEARTS for Jesus Christ

Christian Community was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took a 46-34 hit to the loss column at the hands of the HEARTS for Jesus Christ Guardians. The Warriors were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Guardians earlier this season, when they won 53-30.

Several Warriors players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Lyla Miller, who almost dropped a double-double with 14 points and nine boards. Miller has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 21 times she's played. Brooke Russo was another key player, putting up seven points.

HEARTS for Jesus Christ's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Carenna Lewis, who almost dropped a double-double with nine points and 18 rebounds. Lewis also grabbed five steals, which is notable because HEARTS for Jesus Christ is 9-4 when she posts at least three steals, but 0-4 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Rayna Kawczak, who went 6-for-12 to rack up 18 points and three blocks.

Christian Community's loss dropped their record down to 11-11. As for HEARTS for Jesus Christ, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-8.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Christian Community will host Temple Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for HEARTS for Jesus Christ, they will welcome Varsity Opponent at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
