Baseball Game Preview: Canterbury Cougars vs. Venice Indians

The Canterbury Cougars are taking a road trip to face off against the Venice Indians at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (Canterbury 3.6, Venice 1.7) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Canterbury took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They skirted past IMG Academy Royal 4-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Cougars have posted since April 30, 2024.

Anthony Meady made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing six innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in February. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Noah Torres was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. Ashby Piatt was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Venice had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7 runs) and they went ahead and made it seven on Monday. They blew past the Sharks 13-3. The result was nothing new for the Indians, who have now won nine matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

Canterbury has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. Venice pushed their record up to 12-1 with the victory, which was their 16th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Canterbury came out on top in a nail-biter against Venice when the teams last played back in March of 2022, sneaking past 1-0. Will Canterbury repeat their success, or does Venice have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
