League recap: Commerce stuns Athens Christian in upset

A Region 8 recap October 8, 2013

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Commerce, who took down 279th ranked Athens Christian, 22-21.

Fans got a thrill when Conner Holliday and Jacob Harper connected against George Walton Academy. The connection went for 78 yards, the longest such play in A Region 8 this season.

Holliday threw for 292 yards and 2 touchdowns. He was 21-41 with 3 interceptions.

Holliday put up the best numbers through the air as Hebron Christian Academy lost to the Bulldogs. Holliday's favorite target this week was Harper, who caught 8 passes for 186 yards.

The Lions' Holliday and Harper led the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-1 quarterback Holliday has thrown for 1,117 yards this season, while Harper has 25 catches for 463 yards. George Walton Academy's Stanley Williams leads the league in rushing yards with 757.

The Tigers are in fourth place, while Prince Avenue Christian is in first place.

Commerce moved up to 252 from 293 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. Michael Brown's team was able to move up by beating the Eagles 22-21.
