Softball Game Preview: Jefferson Bears vs. Flat Rock Rams

Jefferson is 1-9 against Flat Rock since May of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Bears will head out to take on the Rams at 8:00 p.m. Jefferson has given up an average of 9.2 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Jefferson is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 18 runs on Saturday, they were much more limited against Huron on Monday. They came up short against the Chiefs, falling 12-0.

The home team had won the previous five meetings between Flat Rock and St. Mary Catholic Central, and Flat Rock kept the tradition alive. The Rams came out on top against the Falcons/Kestrels by a score of 7-2 on Monday.

Vanessa Neace spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Addi Kopp, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. That's the most stolen bases she has posted over her last 13 contests. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashlin Woodman, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Flat Rock is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-16 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Jefferson, their loss dropped their record down to 8-14.

Jefferson suffered a grim 23-6 defeat to Flat Rock in their previous matchup back in April. Can the Bears avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
