Softball Recap: Cranston West Falls Short Against Ranked St. Raphael Academy

Cranston West faced St. Raphael Academy in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Sunday. The Falcons fell just short of the Saints by a score of 2-1. The Falcons were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Saints apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Mia Crudale spent all 7.2 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits.

On the hitting side, Cranston West saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mia Baffoni, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base. Baffoni is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played.

With the loss, Cranston West broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 11-7. As for St. Raphael Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-2 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cranston West will face off against Pilgrim at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Patriots' pitching crew has only allowed 2.6 runs per game this season, so the Falcons' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for St. Raphael Academy, they will square off against Scituate at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Saints' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Spartans have averaged an impressive 6.6 runs per game this season.
