Recap: Patriot Pioneers vs. Freedom Eagles
It was a good run, but the Patriot Pioneers unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Friday. They fell just short of Freedom by a score of 39-37. Patriot was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Freedom apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January.
When it comes to explaining why Patriot lost, one person who can't be blamed is Ella Negron. Despite the final result, she scored 16 points along with five rebounds. The matchup was Negron's seventh in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Crystal Wright, who scored four points along with seven rebounds.
Patriot's loss dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Freedom, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-3.
Patriot will head out on the road to face off against Gainesville at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Gainesville presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Patriot in Virginia (Gainesville is ranked first, while Patriot is ranked 155th). Freedom will be home for the holidays to greet Independence at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
