Recap: Valor Christian Eagles vs. Bear Creek Bears

The Valor Christian Eagles waltzed into their contest on Friday with five straight wins but they left with six. They snuck past Bear Creek with a 66-60 victory. Given Valor Christian's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked third, while Bear Creek is ranked 136th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Valor Christian was led to victory by Eli Kim and Cole Scherer. Kim scored 23 points along with five rebounds and two steals, while Scherer went 6 for 10 from beyond the arc en route to 29 points and 4 assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Kim has scored all season. Brady Wynja was another key contributor, scoring five points along with six rebounds.

Several Bears players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Emilek Jallow, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and 13 rebounds. That was a full 41.7% of Bear Creek's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Alen Avdic, who scored 12 points.

Valor Christian pushed their record up to 15-2 with that win, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 78.4 points per game. As for Bear Creek, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-10.

Valor Christian will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Chatfield at 7:00 p.m. Bear Creek will be staying on the road on Wednesday to face off against Ralston Valley at 7:30 p.m. on January 31st. Ralston Valley is coming into the contest hot, having won their last five games.
