Softball Recap: Polytech Find Success

Polytech hadn't done well against Indian River recently (they were 1-6 in their previous seven matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Panthers walked away with a 7-4 win over the Indians. For the Panthers, this counts as revenge for the 2-0 victory the Indians walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2023.

Riley Merritt looked comfortable as she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Emma Shelton, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2025. Kortney Brown also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

The win made it two in a row for Polytech and bumps their season record up to 5-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Indian River, their loss dropped their record down to 2-2.

Looking ahead, Polytech is taking a road trip to challenge Red Lion Christian Academy at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Indian River, they will challenge Seaford at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday.
