Clinton has won four straight games at home (dating back to last season), while Northwest Rankin has won four straight on the road also dating back to last season, but those streaks won't matter much on Saturday. The Clinton Arrows will host the Northwest Rankin Cougars at 6:00 p.m. Clinton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.3 runs per game this season.
Clinton blew Newton County out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Friday Newton County got their revenge. Clinton fell just short of Newton County by a score of 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Arrows have suffered since April 26, 2024.
Clinton got a good showing from Ashlen Albritton, who didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched.
On the hitting side, EstrElla Constancio was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with three doubles and one RBI. Keelyn Constancio also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Meanwhile, Northwest Rankin got themselves on the board against North Pike on Friday, but North Pike never followed suit. They blew past the Jaguars 11-0. Considering the Cougars have won five contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Northwest Rankin also got a great performance from Bella Pierce as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. That's the fewest hits Pierce has allowed since back in March of 2024.
At the plate, Brooke Smith was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Hannah Sullivan was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.
Northwest Rankin always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .538. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as North Pike only posted an OBP of .263.
Clinton's defeat dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Northwest Rankin, their win bumped their record up to 6-0.
Saturday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Clinton hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .390. However, it's not like Northwest Rankin struggles in that department as they've averaged .391. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Clinton came up short against Northwest Rankin in their previous matchup back in April of 2019, falling 8-4. Can Clinton avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
