Baseball Game Preview: Zionsville Eagles vs. Franklin Community Grizzly Cubs

The Zionsville Eagles will take on the Franklin Community Grizzly Cubs at 12:45 p.m. on Saturday. Zionsville will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.

On Friday, Zionsville beat Hamilton Southeastern 6-2. That's two games straight that the Eagles have won by exactly four runs.

Zionsville got a great performance from Peter Ward as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. Ward has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Brayden Ring was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. Camden Moore also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Zionsville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

The home team had come away the winner the last five times Franklin Community and Perry Meridian had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Grizzly Cubs walked away with a 6-3 victory over the Falcons on Wednesday. The game was the first time the Grizzly Cubs have beaten the Falcons on their field since April 12, 2022.

Greyson Betts spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on four hits and racked up 13 Ks.

On the hitting side, Owen Bullington was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Carsten Bland, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

Franklin Community's record now sits at 5-2. As for Zionsville, they now have a winning record of 5-4.

Everything went Zionsville's way against Franklin Community in their previous matchup back in May of 2023, as Zionsville made off with an 11-1 win. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Grizzly Cubs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
