Maxwell and Quincy are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2016, but likely not for long. The Panthers will head out to square off against the Trojans at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. Maxwell is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.1 runs per game this season.

Quincy will take on a team with plenty of momentum: Maxwell extended their winning streak to three on Saturday. The Panthers came out on top against Durham by a score of 11-8.

Vincent Orozco was excellent, going 3-for-4 with three runs and one stolen base. That's the most hits he has posted since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Colt Montgomery, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

The home team had come away the winner the last four times Quincy and Portola had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Trojans put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 17-1 win on Tuesday. The Trojans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by seven runs or more this season.

Lancen Walke made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Walke was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

In other pitching news, Blake Sigle looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Jake Thackeray, who went 4-for-5 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Quincy's success: when he posts at least three hits the team is undefeated (and 6-7 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Wade, who went 2-for-4 with three runs and one RBI.

Quincy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Portola only managed one hit.

Maxwell's record is now 16-3. As for Quincy, their record now sits at 10-7.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Maxwell has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Quincy struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Maxwell came out on top in a nail-biter against Quincy when the teams last played back in April of 2019, sneaking past 5-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
