Baseball Game Preview: Tiverton Tigers vs. Rogers Vikings

Tiverton is a perfect 3-0 against Rogers since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Tigers will head out to take on the Vikings at 4:00 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Tiverton is headed into the game having just posted their closest victory since May 4, 2024 on Monday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Hope, sneaking past 10-9. Considering the Tigers' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Kamryn Rego was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out 11 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. He is becoming a predictor of Tiverton's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 2-1 (and 1-3 when he doesn't). Rego was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 3-for-3. He also hit two doubles, marking his first of the season.

In other batting news, Noah Mercer was incredible, scoring a run while going 3-for-3. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (three). Tyler Garside also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Tiverton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Rogers not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since May 28, 2024. They were the clear victors by a 6-0 margin over Classical. The win continues a trend for the Vikings in their matchups with the Purple: they've now won six in a row.

The team relied heavily on Cole Milburn, who scored three runs and stole four bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.5 stolen bases per game. Another player making a difference was Darren Carter, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

The victory got Rogers back to even at 2-2. As for Tiverton, their record is now 3-4.

Tiverton beat Rogers 7-4 when the teams last played back in April of 2022. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
