Softball Recap: Melbourne Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Melbourne, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They won by a run and slipped past the Melbourne Central Catholic Hustlers 4-3. The Bulldogs have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Hustlers on Monday, too.

Brooklynn Steidl spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on five hits and racked up nine Ks. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.1 strikeouts per game.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Layna Ayala, who went 2-for-3 with one home run. She is on a roll when it comes to home runs, as she's now launched at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Tiara Zone was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases.

Melbourne's victory bumped their record up to 6-4. As for Melbourne Central Catholic, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Melbourne will square off against Viera at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Viera's pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so Melbourne's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Melbourne Central Catholic, they will face off against Sebastian River at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
