Baseball Recap: Western Wayne Find Success

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Mid Valley, Western Wayne was happy to have turned things around on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 win over the Holy Cross Crusaders. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Wildcats have posted since March 30th.

Damian Glackin was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 6.2 innings while giving up three earned runs off nine hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Western Wayne is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 5-9 otherwise. Glackin was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Alex Decandis was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases and one run. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Archer Long was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.

Western Wayne hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in five consecutive contests.

Western Wayne is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-10 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games. As for Holy Cross, their defeat was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-15.

Western Wayne didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 12-8 loss against Honesdale on the 7th. As for Holy Cross, they have also already played their next contest, a 16-1 defeat against Mid Valley on the 7th.
