Basketball Game Preview: Roswell Coyotes vs. Rio Rancho Rams

Roswell is 0-4 against Rio Rancho since December of 2019 but things could change on Friday. The Roswell Coyotes will head out on the road to face off against the Rio Rancho Rams at 6:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Rio Rancho will be up against a hot Roswell team: the squad just extended their winning streak to four. Roswell blew past Goddard, posting a 71-29 win. Given the Coyotes' advantage in MaxPreps' New Mexico basketball rankings (they are ranked sixth, while the Rockets are ranked 97th), the result on Tuesday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Rio Rancho didn't have quite enough to beat St. Michael's on Tuesday and fell 69-66. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Saturday (60), the Rams still had to take the loss.

Roswell has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.7 points per game. As for Rio Rancho, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-4.

Roswell came up short against Rio Rancho in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, falling 69-58. Can Roswell avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
