Football Recap: Liberty Comes Up Short

Liberty had lost 11 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Saturday they dropped down to 0-7 to make it 12. They were beaten by the Red Hook Raiders 54-0. The Redhawks were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Raiders apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in November of 2024.

As for Red Hook, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-2. That looming 54-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for them yet this season.

Red Hook found their leader in sophomore Nathan Clum, who threw for 213 yards and four TDs while completing 72.7% of his passes, and also punched in one touchdown on the ground. Clum's passing game has become a key predictor of the Raiders' success: the team is undefeated when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 1-2 otherwise.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Liberty will challenge Marlboro Central at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Dukes' defense has only allowed 10.3 points per game this season, so the Redhawks' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Red Hook, they will take on Rondout Valley at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Raiders will be up against the Ganders' rather soft defense (which has allowed 30.29 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
