Cordova has gone 8-2 against Good Hope recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Blue Devils will host the Raiders at 2:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Cordova comes in on six and Good Hope on three.
While Cordova's win against Carbon Hill wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Blue Devils sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-4 victory over the Bulldogs on Saturday.
Camden Johnson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Ella Grace Madison was incredible, going 1-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Mia Vance, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Cordova hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in eight consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Good Hope earned a 6-1 win over Fairview on Friday.
Molly Benefield was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lizzy Steed, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Natalie Miller was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Good Hope pushed their record up to 20-11-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Cordova, their victory bumped their record up to 25-13.
Cordova's speedy runners might be the difference in Monday's contest. The Blue Devils have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Good Hope, though, as they've been averaging only 1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Cordova continue to outrun the ball?
Cordova might still be hurting after the 9-2 defeat they got from Good Hope when the teams last played back in March. Can the Blue Devils avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
