Softball Recap: Hendrickson Triumphs

Hendrickson took a six-run defeat the last time they faced off against Elgin, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Hendrickson had just enough and edged out Elgin 2-1. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Kara Luongo spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up 15 Ks. Those 15 strikeouts gave her a new career-high.

At the plate, Isabella Gonzales was excellent, going 1-for-2 with one triple, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Hendrickson is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-7-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. Elgin is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-14.

Coincidentally, Hendrickson and Elgin will both be playing Weiss the next time they take the field. Elgin will host Weiss at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while Hendrickson will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
