Softball Recap: Blacksburg Drops Highest Score of Season Against Liberty

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Blacksburg). They blew past the Liberty Red Devils 18-3 on Tuesday. The Wildcats have beaten the Red Devils the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Red Devils has come to flipping the script.

Lucy Thayer made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, Blacksburg got a massive performance out of Paris Mayes, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Kayla Butler, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 4-for-5.

Blacksburg was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .525. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Blacksburg's record now sits at 6-4. As for Liberty, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-9.
