Baseball Recap: Springfield Southeast Triumphs

Springfield Southeast came out on top against Pawnee on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run third inning. The Spartans walked away with a 6-3 victory over the Indians.

M Leininger spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits. Springfield Southeast is 2-1 when Leininger allows one or fewer earned runs, but 5-13 otherwise.

At the plate, B Twist was excellent, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Springfield Southeast's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 3-14 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of C Murphy, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

Springfield Southeast's win bumped their record up to 7-14. As for Pawnee, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-10.

Coming up, Springfield Southeast will look to defend their home field on Monday against Taylorville at 4:30 p.m. As for Pawnee, they will head out on the road to face off against Edinburg at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Indians are facing the Wildcats at the right time seeing as the Wildcats are stuck on a ten-game losing streak.
