Basketball Recap: Owen Makes It Seven in a Row at Home

Owen hadn't done well against Mitchell recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Owen Warhorses walked away with a 69-58 win over the Mitchell Mountaineers. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 76-61 last Wednesday.

Owen's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jack Wesley Burk led the charge by going 11 of 17 on his way to 29 points and five rebounds. Those 29 points gave Burk a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Eli Lewkowicz, who almost dropped a triple-double on 12 points, nine boards, and ten assists.

Owen's victory was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-3. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.0 points per game. As for Mitchell, they now have a losing record at 6-7.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Owen will face off against Mountain Heritage at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Mitchell, they will take on Draughn at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Mitchell's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.
