Football Game Preview: Huntingtown Hurricanes vs. Calvert Cavaliers + How To Watch

Huntingtown and Calvert are an even 5-5 against one another since September of 2015, but not for long. The Hurricanes will be playing at home against the Cavaliers at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Calvert took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Huntingtown, who comes in off a win.

Huntingtown is headed into the matchup after thoroughly thrashing Northern: they outscored them in every quarter. The Hurricanes were the clear victors by a 35-14 margin over the Patriots on Friday. Considering the Hurricanes have won three games by more than 20 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Huntingtown had a senior duo take command as Dominic Hickman rushed for 100 yards and two scores on only 13 carries and Gabriel Copeland rushed for 120 yards and one touchdown while picking up 7.1 yards per carry. Copeland's rushing production has been exceptional as that marked his fifth straight game with at least 103 rushing yards.

Huntingtown was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 235 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 221 rushing yards in three consecutive contests.

Huntingtown didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Derron 'DJ' Turner and Xavier Jones. Turner also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with 11. Jones got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Meanwhile, Calvert came up short against Patuxent on Friday and fell 21-14. The matchup marked the Cavaliers' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Although Calvert took the loss, they still got scores from Andrew Douglas and Didier Marroquin.

Huntingtown's victory bumped their record up to 6-2. As for Calvert, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 7-1.

Thursday's contest will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Copeland and Douglas. Copeland just won't slow down this season and has run in 12 touchdowns while averaging 129.6 rushing yards per game. Douglas has been a dominant force too and has run in 12 touchdowns while averaging 96.6 rushing yards per game.
