Baseball Game Preview: Mount Desert Island Trojans vs. Ellsworth Eagles

Mount Desert Island hasn't had much luck against Ellsworth recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Trojans will venture away from home to take on the Eagles at 4:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Mount Desert Island barely beat Caribou the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Trojans put the hurt on the Vikings with a sharp 21-11 win on Saturday. The game marked the Trojans' most dominant victory of the season.

Colin Sullivan was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and five RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2024. Eli Macdonnell was another key player, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Mount Desert Island always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .628. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Ellsworth never let their opponents score on Friday. They blew past Presque Isle 10-0. Considering the Eagles have won five contests by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

The win made it two in a row for Ellsworth and bumps their season record up to 7-4. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Mount Desert Island, they pushed their record up to 4-5 with the win, which was their third straight at home.

Mount Desert Island couldn't quite finish off Ellsworth in their previous matchup back in June of 2024 and fell 5-3. Can the Trojans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
