Football Game Preview: Sandwich Indians vs. Woodstock Blue Streaks + Official Tickets

The Sandwich Indians will venture away from home to challenge the Woodstock Blue Streaks at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Sandwich has given up an average of 35 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Sandwich is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against Richmond-Burton on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Indians were dealt a 42-12 defeat at the hands of the Rockets. While losing is never fun, the Indians can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois football rankings (they are ranked 329th, while the Rockets are ranked 40th).

Sandwich might have lost, but man, Nick Michalek was a machine: he rushed for 228 yards and one score while picking up 9.9 yards per carry.

Meanwhile, Woodstock didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Plano on Friday, but they still walked away with a 20-14 win.

A big part of Woodstock's victory came down to the chemistry between Caden Thompson and his top target Matthew Cress. Thompson threw for 191 yards and three TDs while Cress picked up 92 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns. Cress also hauled in two receiving touchdowns, which is notable because Woodstock is undefeated when he posts at least two receiving touchdowns, but 1-2 otherwise.

Woodstock's run defense was locked in: Plano could only muster 3.2 yards per carry. While three picked up at least five total tackles, Cress stood above the rest. He picked up 92 receiving yards and a pair of scores. Sadly, that's becoming something of a trend for Woodstock; they were averaging 5.3yards per carry per game earlier this season, but in their last three matchups they've fallen to only 3 per game.

Woodstock's win bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Sandwich, their loss dropped their record down to 2-4.

Sandwich strolled past Woodstock in their previous meeting back in October of 2024 by a score of 28-14. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Indians since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
