Myles Brennan of St. Stanislaus closing in on Mississippi state passing record.
With 494 yards passing in a playoff win over Purvis, St. Stanislaus sophomore quarterback Myles Brennan is on the verge of breaking the Mississippi state record for passing yardage. His effort highlights this week's National Football Stat Stars.
Brennan has 5,502 yards following his effort against Purvis. He needs just 10 yards to break the record of 5,511 set by former St. Stanislaus quarterback Dylan Favre, the nephew of former Green Bay Packer quarterback Brett Favre.
Brennan's total is already the most yardage ever thrown by a sophomore in national history. With 498 yards against Noxubee County (Macon, Miss) in the Class 4A state championship game, Brennan could become only the second high school quarterback to ever throw for over 6,000 yards in a season.
In Arkansas, Ty Storey of Charleston (Ark.) threw for 401 yards in a 49-22 playoff win over Osceola (Ark.). He now has 3,573 yards on the season and 12,274 yards in his career. His career total ranks third all-time in state history. His 150 career touchdowns rank second all-time.
At Pulaski Academy (Little Rock, Ark.), Will Hastings caught 13 passes for 253 yards and two touchdowns in a 42-25 win over Batesville. Hastings has 3,426 career receiving yards, which rank sixth in state history, and 48 touchdown receptions, which also rank sixth.
In New Mexico, Easton Bruere of Rio Rancho reportedly broke the state record for passing yards in a game. His 567-yard effort in a 64-43 win over Eldorado broke the mark of 546 yards set by Brett Henson of Hatch Valley in 2003, according to the New Mexico Activities Association state record book.
