Volleyball Game Preview: Maloney Spartans vs. East Hartford Hornets

Maloney has gone a perfect 4-0 against East Hartford recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. After both having extra time off, the two teams will shake off the rust and duke it out at 6:00 p.m.

Maloney is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Connecticut's top teams: Conard, who was ranked first at the time (Maloney was ranked second). The Spartans fell just short of the Red Wolves by a score of 3-2 on Thursday. The Spartans' loss signaled the end of their seven-game winning streak.

Maloney took Conard into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking seven-point loss. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-23, 25-16, 23-25, 16-25, 15-8.

Despite the defeat, Maloney got top-tier performance from Abdiel Cividanes, who had 20 digs.

Meanwhile, East Hartford hadn't done well against South Windsor recently (they were 0-7 in their previous seven matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way last Friday. The Hornets walked away with a 3-1 victory over the Bobcats. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Hornets.

East Hartford was especially dominant in the fourth set. The final score came out to 25-21, 25-22, 14-25, 25-15.

Maloney's loss dropped their record down to 20-2. As for East Hartford, the win got them back to even at 8-8.

Maloney took their victory against East Hartford when the teams last played back in April by a conclusive 3-0 score. Do the Spartans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Hornets turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
