Softball Game Preview: Abbott Panthers vs. Axtell Longhorns

Abbott is 0-6 against Axtell since March of 2019 but things could change on Tuesday. Abbott will host Axtell at 4:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Axtell will be up against a hot Abbott team: the squad just extended their winning streak to four. Abbott never let Keene get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory on Tuesday. Give the Panthers' pitching crew some credit: that's the team's third straight shutout.

Sarah Alexander and Cheyenne Linder did most of the damage at the plate: Alexander went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Linder went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most runs Linder has posted since back in April of 2024. Dinah Kaska was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Abbott was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .579. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Meanwhile, Axtell won against Hubbard on Tuesday with 13 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Friday. Axtell was the clear victor by a 13-0 margin over Hubbard. The win continues a trend for the Longhorns in their matchups with the Jaguars: they've now won seven in a row.

Abbott's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-2. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Axtell, their victory bumped their record up to 8-3-1.
