Can't Touch This
Eleanor Roosevelt's 34 - 7 win over Flowers last week had a lot to do with the leadership of senior Elisha McDonald. McDonald rushed for 196 yards and two touchdowns. In fact, our algorithms singled out McDonald as one of the top players in the power rankings for the week.
This Week's Big Showdown
One of the hottest tickets last week involved the clash between Our Lady of Good Counsel (ranked 3rd in MD) and Gonzaga (ranked 5th in DC). Our Lady of Good Counsel was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as it fell 24 - 17 to Gonzaga. Despite the defeat, Our Lady of Good Counsel maintained its position in the power rankings.
Game of Inches
It doesn't get any closer than a one-point game, and that was the margin of last week's closest contest, which featured thrill-seekers North Point and Arundel. North Point can thank its lucky stars for its win over Arundel. The final score was a hard-fought 20 - 19. Hopefully the victory is satisfying enough on its own since North Point actually slipped three places in the power rankings.
Next Week's Big Game
The big showdown in the power rankings this week is between St. John's (2nd in the power rankings) and Gonzaga (5th). Both teams are entering with last-week wins under their belts. Only one team will win this week, so we'll see which team fails to repeat its success.
