Basketball Recap: Carroll Comes Up Short

Carroll won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Thursday. They were outmatched by the Lafayette Jefferson Bronchos and fell 67-35. The Cougars were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bronchos apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.

Carroll's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mady Isley, who posted seven points. Isley is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Olivia Schroder was another key player, putting up six points.

Lafayette Jefferson's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Maya Layton, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 boards. Another player making a difference was Da'Niyah Johnson, who earned 14 points and six rebounds.

Carroll moved to 16-7 with that loss, which also ended their four-game winning streak. As for Lafayette Jefferson, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season.

Both are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Carroll will square off against Clinton Prairie at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Clinton Prairie will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something Carroll surely won't give up without a fight. As for Lafayette Jefferson, they will challenge Harrison at 6:00 p.m. on February 7th. Lafayette Jefferson is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54 points per game this season.
